Comments: Odessa barbs are peaceful, lively and undemanding. They are a good addition to coldwater community aquariums, and can be mixed with tankmates of nearly any size. They are active and appreciate having plenty of swimming room. When content, members of both sexes show net like pattern over whole body and greenish brown tinge over back. Males will exibit bright scarlet flanks when in spawning condition. will jump out of small tanks so have a tight fitting lid. dont house in a small aquarium. dont house with angels or other long finned fish as they can be fin nippers. will also eat any small fish they can fit in their mouths (like guppy fry).
Suggested foods: A good quality tropical flake or granules, frozen shrimp and worms foods, daphnia, beefheart.
Sexing: males have more intense colour of bright scarlet with a black net pattern over the whole body and metallic bluish spot near gills, females are very dull in comparison.
