These fish should be housed with their own kind or other fish of the same size and temperment. Geo. brasiliensisand enjoy a spacious aquarium with plenty of room to swim. This species also enjoys digging so live plants are not recommended. Large rocks, driftwood, plastic plants, and a thick layer of pea size gravel will serve you well as decorations in your tank. Breeding Information These cichlids will pick a secluded part of the tank and lay there eggs on a flat rock or piece of slate. Flower pots turned on end are also a popular spawning site of these fish. The eggs with hatch in 4 to 5 days after being laid. The Pearl cichlid is considered a good parent and will tend and protect their fry very well. After the fry start swimming freely though it is a good idea to remove them just in case the parents hunger and the fact they are in a confined space gets the better of them and they loose there normally good natured attitude. Fry should be fed newly hatched baby brine shrimp and/or finely crushed flakes. By www.cichliddepot.com/library/american/index2.php
