They need ample room to swim and plenty of hiding spots. These fish are diggers and most plants will be destroyed if introduced. Plastic plants, large rocks, driftwood, and a think layer of substrate is recommended. This species can be some what aggressive and should be housed with other new world cichlids of the same size and temperament. The green texas cichlid is an omnivore and will readily take foods such as cichlid pellets, algea wafers, various frozen foods, and insects. A varied and balenced diet is key to the health of these fish. Breeding Information The Green Texas Cichlid is an open breeder and generally will spawn on smooth rocks and slate. The female deposits her eggs which will hatch anywhere from 3-4 days after they are laid. Four to five days after hatching the fry will become free swimmers and require outside food sources. Baby brine shrimp and crushed flakes are recommended. Both the male and female will tend and guard the young. These cichlids are considered good parents.
