Green Terror
General Information
Green Terrors are found in South America, most common in Peru and Ecuador. These fish are quite aggressive and should be kept in a large well maintained enviroment. Terrors can be kept with other species of the same temperment but are best kept alone or in pairs. Expect these fish to reach lengths of up and over 9 inches when choosing which tank to buy. Decorate your aquarium with plastic plants, large rocks and driftwood. In some cases live plants can be used if started young and in pots. I wouldn't get your hopes up though as many green terrors enjoy unrooting plants. Keep your pH neutral or slighly on the acidic side and keep the water temperature in the mid to high seventies.
Breeding Information
The males of this species are generally longer and will also develop a hump as they mature. Females are usually darker in color and will have a more rounded body shape. Females will also usually have green anal fins where as the male will have blue. Breeding these fish isn't all to difficult as long as the right conditions are offered. Clean water, good filtration, and a varied diet are all very important when breeding these fish. Green Terrors usually are easier to breed when young (4-5 in). These fish are egg layers and the female will generally look for a flat rock or cave to spawn upon. Terrors are considered good parents and will tend to and watch over their young very intently.
