Daily Duties
* Look at the heater
* Feed the fish twice a day, enough to last 3-4 minutes.
* Check that the water temperature is correct.
* Check the health of the fish and remove any ill fish to a breeding trap.
* Check for signs of diseases and treat as necessary.
* Look for signs of breeding or pregnant fish.
* Turn the aquarium lights off about 10 minutes before the room lights - This allows for the fish to become accustomed to a dim light before total darkness.
Weekly Duties
* Check pH, water hardness, ammonia and nitrate levels and adjust as necessary - gradual changes - big changes in pH levels can kill the fish.
* Check to make sure that you have sufficient foods, testing kits and water treatments - buy more if required.
# Scrape of any algae from the front and sides of the tank using the algae scraper, and allow the debris to settle.
# Using the gravel cleaner, siphon of about a 25% of the water, along with the settled algae debris.
# Remove the foam/sponge from the filter and clean it in the water that you have just siphoned off.Tap water will kill the bacteria that has built up in your filter sponge which is required for your aquarium.
# Never boil or run the foam/spon# Replace the siphoned water with clean water that is of the same temperature, pH, hardness etc as the aquarium water - tap safe is a good product to use as it neutralises tap water, making it safe to put in your tank.
# When replacing water it is best to run the tap for a few minutes before filling your tank back up.
# Turn the filter back on.
# Never use accessories that have had soap in them - soap will kill your fish.
# Remove any dead leafs from plants, and replace any dead ones with fresh ones.
# Trim of any overgrown plants - the cut offs can be replanted.
